IT STARTS WITH ONE - IT STARTS WITH YOU CAMPAIGN

You alone can start to organize an event, presentation, exhibit, etc. with friends, fellow survivors and their families in your community. This is a grassroots movement - get involved! The following are ideas that you can do to raise awareness on World MRSA Day (Oct.2nd) or during MRSA Awareness Month - October.

Many MRSA survivors are from the healthcare industry and can organize a service at their  place of worship. We must come together to raise awareness of the MRSA epidemic.

1. Candlelight Vigils - organize one at your place of worship, the state capitol steps, government building or community center.

2. Organize a memorial or commemorative program at a church, temple, mosque, etc.

3. Make a photo exhibit of MRSA survivors and those who have lost their life and display at a public building, community center. etc.

4. Post videos on your web site or photos from those who have lost their life and tell how it has impacted your life. Also post them on YouTube.

5. Organize a fundraiser such as a walk, golf outing, etc. during MRSA Awareness Month- October.

CONTACT THE MEDIA

It is important that the media knows about your event. Find out who the health reporter is for your local newspaper or who covers the health beat and get their contact information. Do the same for your local TV station and you can find that information on the TV stations web site.  Also you want to place your event in the newspaper calendar of events section. Send a press release to the media several weeks before the event and follow up with a phone call. You may want to do this again a week before the event also. List your event in any free listings that are available in your area.
